yeah so from june 12 2025 amex is changing a few things in india. you won’t earn membership rewards points on fuel spends anymore at petrol pumps and the same goes for utility payments like electricity, water or gas. also if you choose emi at checkout those transactions won’t give you points either. the only slight relief is that these spends can still count towards milestones on some cards, so they’ll help you hit bonus targets even though you don’t get base points. lounge access and cashback benefits don’t seem to be touched for now, so that part is safe. if you were using your amex mainly for fuel or bills it makes sense to shift those spends to another card that still gives rewards and just keep amex for shopping, dining or travel where it continues to work well.
