I’m looking to correct my birth certificate online in Tamil Nadu and want to make sure I do it right has anyone done this before and can share the full process for how to apply for birth certificate correction online in Tamil Nadu, including where to apply, what forms to fill, what documents you needed, and how long it took?

Many people in Tamil Nadu want to fix spelling mistakes or missing details on a birth certificate without visiting government offices.

How to apply for birth certificate correction online in Tamil Nadu

  1. Open the Tamil Nadu e-Sevai portal
Visit https://www.tnesevai.tn.gov.in and log in with your mobile number. If you are a first-time user, create a new account and verify the OTP.

  2. Choose “Birth Certificate Services”
After logging in, select “Birth Certificate Services” from the service list and pick “Correction in Birth Certificate”.

  3. Fill the correction form

  • Enter the birth registration number and the child’s date of birth exactly as printed on the old certificate.
  • Choose the type of correction (name spelling, date of birth, parent name, etc.).
  • Type the present (wrong) detail and the proposed (correct) detail.
  1. Upload supporting documents (each file under 200 KB, JPG or PDF)
  • Current birth certificate (clear scan)
  • Notarised affidavit on ₹50 stamp paper stating the correct detail
  • Parent/child Aadhaar copy
  • Early-life proof showing the correct detail (hospital discharge sheet, first school admission form, immunisation card)
  • Online fee receipt (₹50–₹200 in most Tamil Nadu municipalities)
  1. Submit and track
Press “Submit” and save the acknowledgement number. Use the “Track Application” link on the same portal. Most urban local bodies issue the updated certificate within 7–15 working days. You can download the digitally signed PDF or collect a printed copy from the corporation office.

Remember:

  • If the child is above one year, or if you want a completely new first name, you may need a court order or Gazette notification first. Complete that step before you file the online correction.
  • For major changes (e.g., different year of birth), the municipality may ask for a newspaper advertisement and Gazette copy as extra proof.
