How to correct father or mother’s name in a digital birth certificate?

Has anyone faced an issue where their father’s or mother’s name was printed incorrectly on a digital birth certificate? I’m curious to know how you managed to get it corrected did you apply online through the municipal or state portal, or was it necessary to visit the local birth registrar office in person?

I came across this recently because many of us notice that a parent’s name is misspelled or missing on the new digital birth certificate and we want to fix it without hiring anyone.

How to correct father or mother’s name in a digital birth certificate

  1. Open the same portal that issued the digital copy

Log in to your state CRS site (for example, crsorgi.gov.in, tnesevai.tn.gov.in, or your city municipal site) with your mobile number and OTP.

  1. Choose “Parent Name Correction”

Click “Correction/Update” and select “Parent Name Correction” from the drop-down menu.

  1. Fill the small form
  • Enter the child’s birth registration number and date of birth exactly as printed.

  • Write the present (wrong) parent name and the proposed (correct) name.

  • Upload the documents listed in the table below (each scan under 200 KB, JPG or PDF).

  • Pay the online fee (₹50–₹200 in most states) and submit. Save the acknowledgement number.

  1. Track and download

Use the “Track Application” link on the same portal. Most cities issue the updated digital certificate within 7–15 working days. You can download the new PDF or collect a printed copy from the ward office.

Remember: If the child is above one year, or if you want to add a completely new parent, most states ask for a court order first. Complete that step before you file the online correction.
