Open your state birth portal
Visit the municipal corporation website or the state CRS portal where the birth was first registered. -
Log in or create account
Use your mobile number; an OTP arrives. Key it in and you reach the dashboard. -
Choose “Correction in Birth Certificate”
Click the “Correction/Update” tile and select “Name Change/Spelling Correction” from the menu. -
Fill the small form
- Enter the birth registration number and date of birth exactly as printed.
- Write the present (wrong) spelling and the proposed (correct) spelling.
- Upload the documents listed in the table below (each scan under 200 KB, JPG or PDF).
- Pay the online fee (₹50–₹200 in most states) and submit. Save the acknowledgement number.

Track and download
Use the “Track Status” link on the same portal. Most cities issue the updated certificate within 7–15 working days. You can download the PDF or collect the printed copy from the ward office.
