I think, I know a very fragmented things about because the other my friend asked me that what are the the different types credit cards and I started to explain to him there are entry level, mid level etc etc. He said he types of cards so I was like blank so is there any proper structure?
So a primary card is like a all rounder, travel, bills, Insurance, cashback, fuel etc.
many people have multiple cards for different types of spends but in your context that would be a secondary card as it fulfils a specific purpose instead of been a all rounder
From what I’ve seen using multiple credit cards over the years, these are the main reward types in India — and each fits different spending styles:
Primary Credit Card Reward Types in India
1. Cashback
You get a percentage of your spend back, usually credited to your card account or as statement credit. It’s simple and tangible — many prefer it for everyday use.
2. Reward Points / Loyalty Points
Your purchases earn points (e.g. 1 point per ₹100). Later, you redeem these for vouchers, merchandise, flight/hotel bookings, etc.
3. Air Miles / Travel Rewards
Some cards let you convert your spends directly into airline miles (or points in airline frequent flyer programs). Useful if you travel often.
4. Special / Co-branded Rewards
Cards tied to certain brands or categories — e.g. e-commerce, dining, fuel — offering higher rewards when you spend in partner merchants.
5. Welcome / Signup Bonuses
Many cards offer bonus rewards or points if you hit a minimum spend in your first few months.
