Why is Amazon Pay balance not working for insurance premium payments in India?

Why am I unable to use my Amazon Pay balance to pay my full insurance premium in India, and what are the latest restrictions or limits on Amazon Pay wallet use for insurance bill payments?

So amazon has implemented a limit of Rs 15,000 for their bill payments as many people used to exploit it using gift cards and Credit card loops.
So if your premium is below ₹15000 then you should have a option to pay the insurance premium

If you are paying your insurance premium through Amazon website or amazon app, then a limit of INR 50,000 (for payments through credit cards, debit cards, netbanking and UPI) and INR 15,000 (for payment using Amazon Pay Balance) would apply.

If you are paying through the official website of the insurance company, then there are only a handful of websites that accept amazon pay wallet as a payment option. So you might need to check the website/app through which you are paying and if they allow you to pay through the amazon wallet and if yes, are there any limits.

You can’t use your Amazon Pay balance for your full insurance premium because RBI rules treat wallet money differently from bank-linked payments. At best, Amazon lets you pay only a part of the premium (usually up to ₹15,000 a month) with your wallet, and the rest has to come from UPI, netbanking, or cards.

Amazon Pay balance isn’t allowed for insurance premium payments in India anymore because of RBI’s rules on wallet usage. Wallet money can be used for smaller day to day spends like mobile recharges, shopping or utility bills, but big transactions or recurring payments like insurance premiums have been restricted. The main reason is KYC and risk control since wallets are considered semi-closed payment instruments and not full bank accounts.
Right now you can’t use Amazon Pay balance directly for insurance, no matter how much you load. The only way is to pay through Amazon Pay UPI or your linked bank card which don’t have the same restrictions. Wallet limits for other bill categories are also capped, for example ₹10000 per transaction and ₹25000 per month for electricity or gas. But for insurance specifically, wallet payments are blocked altogether under the new RBI guidelines, so it’s not an Amazon only decision it happens with all other wallets as well

Amazon Pay balance has strict restrictions for high-value insurance payments in India. You can generally use the wallet for premiums below ₹50,000, but for ₹50,000 or above, the balance option is disabled and Amazon forces you to use UPI, netbanking, or cards instead. Even for smaller amounts, your wallet must be Full KYC verified, and sometimes Amazon disables balance use for mid-sized bills just like it does for utilities (₹15,000+). That’s why you cannot pay their full premium directly with Amazon Pay balance.
