Air Canada Aeroplane Points

Recently I booked Bahrain - Bangalore for 12.5k AC points + Rs 5800 in taxes for an Etihad flight.

AC already has Emirates already in the dynamic chart. Even the Lost Cost Carrier arm - Flydubai is dynamically priced and has a separate award chart.

From Emirates/Flydubai redemptions, we can tell that Etihad redemption won’t be of good value.

From March 25, Air Canada (AC) is moving Etihad, United and some other airlines to a dynamic chart, aka a devaluation

Has Air Canada done this before with other airlines?

Yes, Aeroplan has already moved Emirates and Flydubai to dynamic pricing.

  • Emirates redemptions became significantly more expensive.
  • Flydubai, despite being a low-cost airline, has a separate award chart with dynamic pricing.
Based on these past changes, it is expected that Etihad and United redemptions will also lose value.

I’ve booked Flydubai using Aeroplan before, and it wasn’t great value, Flydubai redemptions have been overpriced ever since they got their own award chart. If Etihad follows a similar model, economy redemptions might still be okay, but business class deals could be gone.
