Hi everyone,
I’m planning to pay ₹47,000 for my sister’s Bhatia Live360 NEET PG course, and a few of her friends might use my card too. I want to pick the best credit card for cashback or rewards.
These are the cards I have:
HDFC Millennia
SBI Cashback
ICICI Rubyx
HSBC Platinum Visa
Has anyone used these for educational or online payments? Which one gives the best value?
Thanks in advance!
So basis on the card you have-
You can pay fees through HDFC Millennia credit card as it will give you 1% cashbacks, if you’re paying tuition or college fees directly and not through aggregators(such as Cred).
You won’t get any rewards on fees if you pay through SBI cashback credit card, ICICI Rubyx or HSBC Platinum Visa.
Here is my Detailed Analysis on these card here is what I was able to find
ICICI Rubyx
Rewards: ₹235 (approximately 0.5% value from 940 reward points)
Annual Fee: ₹2,000
Net Benefit: -₹1,765 ( 235 - 2000)
Why it’s costly: While it does provide rewards on education payments (2 reward points per ₹100), the high annual fee and low reward rate make it economically unfavourable.
HDFC Millennia
Cashback: ₹0 (third-party education payments excluded since Sep 2024)
Annual Fee: ₹1,000
Net Benefit: -₹1,000 (0-1000)
Why it fails: Despite being excellent for online shopping on partner merchants like Amazon and Flipkart (5% cashback), education payments through third-party apps are specifically excluded from earning rewards.
HSBC Platinum Visa
Cashback: ₹0 (education payments excluded from rewards)
Annual Fee: ₹0
Net Benefit: ₹0 (0 - 0 )
Why it’s okay: No cost, no benefit. Since education payments don’t earn rewards, this card won’t generate any cashback but won’t cost you anything either.
SBI Cashback Credit Card
Cashback: ₹2,350 (5% on the ₹47,000 payment)
Annual Fee: ₹999
Net Benefit: ₹1,351 (2350 - 999)
Why it works: SBI Cashback Credit Card Offers 5% cashback on all online spends without merchant restrictions, including education payments. The monthly cashback cap is ₹5,000, so your ₹47,000 payment will earn the full 5% cashback.
according to me SBI Cashback Credit Card is clearly the best choice for paying the ₹47,000 Bhatia Live360 NEET PG
For a ₹47k payment, your best option is the SBI Cashback Card, as long as the payment is online through a normal gateway like Razorpay or PayU. It gives 5 percent cashback, so you can get around ₹2,350 back. Just make sure the payment isn’t under a blocked category like rent or wallet loads.
HDFC Millennia gives only 1 percent for general payments, unless it’s on Amazon or Flipkart. ICICI Rubyx and HSBC Platinum don’t offer much value for this type of spend unless there’s a special offer running.
So if the transaction goes through like a regular online payment, stick with the SBI Cashback Card. It should give you the best return.
