Can I link PayZapp wallet with Google Pay or PhonePe?

I have some money in my PayZapp wallet, but I prefer using Google Pay for most of my payments. Can I link my PayZapp wallet to Google Pay so I can spend my wallet balance through it?

No, you cannot directly link your PayZapp wallet as a payment source inside the Google Pay or PhonePe apps. UPI apps like Google Pay and PhonePe are designed to link directly to bank accounts, whereas a digital wallet like PayZapp is considered a separate type of financial instrument.

Why UPI Apps Link to Banks, Not Wallets

My friend was recently looking through his Google Pay settings for an ‘Add Wallet’ option because he wanted to link his PayZapp account. I had to explain that this option doesn’t exist because UPI apps are fundamentally built to connect with bank accounts (e.g., HDFC, SBI, ICICI), not other wallets. This is the core design of the UPI system in India.

PayZapp Wallet and Google Pay Are Separate Systems

I was explaining this concept to my cousin. When you link your HDFC bank account to PhonePe, you are giving the PhonePe app permission to send payment instructions to your bank. However, the money in your PayZapp wallet is self-contained within the PayZapp ecosystem. You cannot give Google Pay or PhonePe control over your separate PayZapp wallet balance as they are two different platforms.

How You Can Still Pay Merchants Across Apps

A colleague mentioned that he was able to use his PayZapp app to scan and pay a PhonePe merchant QR code, which seemed confusing at first. He clarified that recent changes have enabled “UPI interoperability” for some wallets. This doesn’t mean his wallet is linked inside the PhonePe app. It simply means the UPI network can now recognize his PayZapp UPI handle as a valid source to pay merchants, allowing the separate systems to communicate for a transaction.
