My family’s situation has changed since the Ayushman list was made. We have a new baby, and an elderly member has passed away. Can we update these details in our Ayushman Bharat family unit?
While you cannot change the original family structure that made you eligible for Ayushman Bharat, you can and should update it to reflect major life events like a new birth, a marriage, or a death. This is a formal process that must be done in person at an authorized center by providing official documents.
The Rule of the Original Family Unit
I was speaking with an Ayushman Mitra, and he emphasized that the core list of family members is based on the 2011 census data and cannot be fundamentally altered. He gave an example that you cannot add a parent or a sibling who was living in a different household in 2011, even if they live with you now. The original entitlement is fixed.
How to Update Your Family by Adding a New Member
My friend, whose family is on the Ayushman list, recently had a baby. He was able to add his newborn son to his family unit. To do this, he had to visit a Common Service Centre (CSC) with the baby’s Birth Certificate and his own Aadhaar card. The operator then initiated a ‘Member Addition’ request. The same process applies for adding a newly married spouse, for which a Marriage Certificate is required.
The Process for Updating by Removing a Member
My neighbor’s family unfortunately had a death last year. To update their Ayushman records and remove the deceased member’s name, they had to visit the help desk at an empanelled hospital. They were required to submit a copy of the official Death Certificate. The Ayushman Mitra used this document to raise a formal request to have the member’s name removed from their family unit in the database.
