Hey everyone! I keep seeing ads for ICICI Pocket wallet but I’m confused about what it actually is. Is it just another digital wallet like Paytm/PhonePe or something different?
I’m with ICICI Bank already, so wondering if there are any special benefits for existing customers. Also, is it even relevant anymore with UPI being everywhere?
Thanks for the gold, kind stranger! This community is amazing
Hello there @Shivam.Thanks for the appreciation man..
Alright, let me break down ICICI Pockets for you since I’ve been using it for a while:
What it actually is:
- It’s ICICI Bank’s digital wallet + mobile banking combo app
- Think of it as Paytm but backed by a major bank
- You get both wallet functionality AND a virtual VISA card instantly
Key features that set it apart:
- Virtual VISA card: You get card details immediately for online shopping - no waiting for physical delivery
- Physical card option: Can request an actual card for in-store payments
- NFC payments: India’s first app to do contactless payments by just waving your phone near terminals
- UPI + QR codes: Supports both UPI and Bharat QR (they were actually first to offer UPI payments)
For ICICI customers:
- Easier to load money directly from your savings account
- Better integration with your existing banking
- Some exclusive offers (varies by time)
Is it worth it in 2025? Honestly? It’s decent but not revolutionary. Here’s my take:
Good Part
- Instant virtual card is genuinely useful
- Good for people who want bank-backed security
- NFC feature is cool when it works
- No minimum balance headaches like some wallets
Not So Good Part
- UPI has made wallets less relevant overall
- Interface isn’t as smooth as PhonePe/GPay
- Limited merchant acceptance vs bigger players
- ₹100 minimum load requirement
Bottom line: If you’re already with ICICI and want a bank-backed digital wallet with card features, it’s solid. But if you’re happy with UPI apps, you’re not missing much.
