I’m thinking of getting insurance for my cat and want to keep up with regular vet visits has anyone’s pet insurance in India actually covered routine health checkups or is that something you had to pay out of pocket?

That’s a good question and the short answer is: a basic pet policy does not but you can add a small “routine-care” or “wellness” cover that does.
Does Pet Insurance in India Cover Routine Health Check-ups?
Standard accident and illness plans only pay when the vet bill takes place because of sickness or injury. A regular annual check-up, vaccination or deworming tablet is considered “expected” cost so it is left out. If you want those bills back, you have to tick the wellness add-on when you buy the policy.
What the Add-on Gives You
- It repays you for yearly health exam fees, vaccination shots, blood/urine/stool tests, tick and flea medicine and even sometimes dental scaling.
- You’ll get fixed refund limit each year (usually ₹1,000–₹2,500 total).
- Small extra premium (₹300–₹800 per year).
How You Can Claim
- Pay the vet as usual and keep the bill.
- Upload the bill on the insurer’s app or email it.
- Money reaches your bank in 3–7 working days.
