I have a demat account with zerodha that has all my stocks and I also invest through zerodha coin for mutual funds.
I am now looking to add digital gold to my portfolio and I was wondering whether Zerodha allows buying digital gold through kite or any other platform? Also, I would like to know if buying digital gold is similar/worse/better than buying gold ETFs that trade on the stock exchanges? I am looking to start with a smaller amount and gradually grow the same with an investment horizon of 12-15 years
Yes Zerodha offers digital gold through Coin in partnership with Augmont, not on Kite. You can buy in small amounts but it isn’t regulated and you can only hold for about 5 years before you must sell or take delivery. For a 12 to 15 year horizon gold ETFs or Sovereign Gold Bonds are far better since they are regulated, have no storage issues and in the case of SGBs you also get 2.5 percent annual interest plus tax benefits. Digital gold is fine for short term savings, ETFs and SGBs are better for long term investing.
