ELSS exit load after 3 years – is it zero for all funds in 2025?

Hello everyone, I’ve been investing in ELSS and just crossed the 3 year lock-in period. I’m curious now that the lock-in is over, is the exit load completely zero for all funds in 2025 or do some funds still charge a fee?

I had the same question whether ELSS funds still carry an exit load after 3 years in 2025, here is what i learned.

ELSS Exit Load After 3 Years

ELSS (Equity Linked Savings Schemes) comes with a mandatory 3 years lock-in period. So, during this period you won’t be able to withdraw or redeem your money. After this lock-in period is completed, you are free to redeem your amount and the exit load is zero.

This is a uniform rule all over ELSS schemes in India.

After 3 years no penalty, exit fee or any hidden charges will be there when you redeem your amount.

Exit Load Rules for ELSS in 2025

Redemption Timeline Redemption Allowed Exit Load Important Notes
Within 1 year Not allowed NA ELSS has a fixed 3-year lock-in
After 1 year Not allowed NA Lock-in continues till 3 years
At exactly 3 years Allowed Zero Redemption possible without exit fee

Points to know

  • ELSS always has a fixed three-year lock-in.
  • After three years exit load is zero across all funds.
  • Investors can redeem fully or partially once the lock-in is complete.
