Has anyone tried to track the status of their birth certificate correction application? I’ve submitted mine recently but I’m not sure where or how to check the progress. Do different states have separate portals for tracking, or is there a common method to see if the correction is approved and the updated certificate is ready?
How can I track my birth certificate correction status?
-
Keep the acknowledgement number safe
When you submit the correction form (online or at the counter) the system gives you an acknowledgement number (sometimes called application number or file number). Save this – you will need it every time you check. -
Use the same portal you applied from
- Go to your state birth portal.
- Click “Track Application” or “Check Status”.
- Enter the acknowledgement number and press “Search”.
The page will show “Under Process”, “Approved”, or “Rejected” along with the date of each step.
-
No login? Use the public tracker
- Many states host a public status page (e.g., https://tnedistrict.tn.gov.in/out_status.xhtml or similar).
- Select “Birth Certificate”, key in the acknowledgement number and press “Search”.
You will see the current stage and the expected dispatch date.
-
SMS and email alerts
The system sends an SMS and email whenever the status changes – so keep your phone active and check the spam folder. -
Still no update after 15 working days?
- Note the application number and date of submission.
- Send a short email to your state’s e-governance help-desk or call the toll-free number printed on the acknowledgement slip. Quote the application number, they usually reply within 48 hours with the exact status.
