I got this email today saying “Effective 1 February 2025, a 0.75% convenience fee + GST will be charged on the purchase of Amazon Pay and Amazon Shopping gift vouchers via our e-voucher platform on Reward Multiplier.”
Yeah you got the right news my friend and there goes my use of AMEX card which i have for this sole purpose.
For explaining you the Math →
If you buy ₹10k worth of Amazon Pay vouchers;
You’ll be paying ₹88.5 more to earn 200 extra points on MRCC. That’s close to 44% devaluation.
You’ll be paying ₹88.5 more to earn 400 extra points on Platinum Travel. That’s close to 22% devaluation.
You’ll be paying ₹88.5 more to earn 800 extra points on Gold. That’s close to 11% devaluation.

Starting 1 February 2025, American Express will charge a 0.75% convenience fee plus GST on purchases of Amazon Pay and Amazon Shopping gift cards made through their Reward Multiplier platform (via Gyftr).
So for example, if you buy a ₹1,000 Amazon gift card, you’ll be charged ₹7.50 as the fee, plus 18% GST on that, making the total extra cost around ₹8.85.
This fee only applies to Amazon vouchers on the platform. Other brand vouchers may still be free of charge unless Amex updates the terms later.
