I currently have a credit card with a limit of ₹80,000, and I’d like to increase it to ₹1,50,000. I’ve been using the card regularly and paying my bills on time, so I believe I may be eligible for a higher credit limit based on my usage and credit behavior. Should I contact customer care , visit branch or can I do it online as well?
Since you are saying you are a responsible user (have regular usage and do timely bill payments). Here are the 3 ways to request a credit limit increase:
1. Check for Pre-approved Limit Increase (Online) - Most banks proactively offer a limit increase if you’re eligible.
- Go to your bank’s net banking or mobile app
- Find the “Credit Card” section
- Look for “Increase Limit” or “Enhance Credit Limit”
- If you’re eligible, you’ll see an offer - just accept and you’re done!
This is the easiest and quickest way.
2. Request Manually (Online or Customer Care) - If you don’t see a pre-approved offer:
- Log in to your account and submit a manual request
(You may need to upload income proof - like salary slips or ITR)
OR - Call the bank’s customer care number and ask for a credit limit increase
Tip: Have your latest salary/income proof ready - they will ask for it.
3.Visit Branch (Optional) - If you prefer a personal approach or need help uploading docs:
- Visit your nearest bank branch
- Ask for the credit card executive
- Fill out the limit enhancement form and submit your income documents
Before applying you can check for the few things by yourself to minimize the chances of rejection i.e.
- Credit score above 750
- At least 6 months of usage with the current card
- No missed payments or over-limit usage
- Increased income (if applicable)
One More Thing - “Never apply for a new card just for a higher limit”, unless you’re sure you’ll use it wisely. Also, avoid requesting multiple limit increases too frequently, it may get flagged.
