How to report two form 16 in ITR ( Income Tax Return)?

I changed my job during the year and now I have two Form 16s from different employers. How should I report the details from both Form 16s while filing my Income Tax Return in India?

If you have worked with two employers in the same financial year, it’s common to receive two Form 16s. While filing your ITR, you need to report income from both employers together as your total salary income. Here’s how you can do it:

Step 1: Collect Both Form 16s

Each Form 16 shows the salary paid and TDS deducted by that employer. You must use both.

Step 2: Add Salary Income from Both Employers

Go to the “Income from Salary” section in your ITR.

Add the gross salary details from both Form 16s.

Make sure to include allowances, perquisites, and deductions reflected in each.

Step 3: Report TDS from Both Employers

Under the TDS Schedule, enter the TDS deducted by both employers.

Cross-check the TDS amounts with your Form 26AS or AIS to ensure no mismatch.

Step 4: Check for Additional Tax Liability

Sometimes, when you switch jobs, the second employer may not consider the salary from your first job while calculating TDS. This can lead to short deduction of tax. In such cases, you might need to pay self-assessment tax while filing your ITR.
