Amid global events and shifting market trends, there’s some shining news for credit card users in India. HSBC, one of Asia’s biggest banks, has upgraded its Accelerated Rewards Program to compete directly with HDFC’s SmartBuy, ICICI’s iShop, and Axis Bank’s Travel Edge. The new program promises impressive returns on redemptions, going as high as 72% in certain cases. In this article, we’ll explore what HSBC has launched, how it works, and whether it’s truly a game-changer for Indian travelers and rewards enthusiasts.
What is HSBC Accelerated Rewards?
HSBC Accelerated Rewards is a new program that allows HSBC credit cardholders in India to earn and redeem points for hotel bookings, airline tickets, and even car rentals. The program is designed to be straightforward and easy to use, making rewards more accessible for everyone. With this launch, HSBC is stepping up to compete with established ecosystems like HDFC SmartBuy, ICICI iShop, and Axis Bank’s Travel Edge.

My review on the Program:
HSBC’s Accelerated Rewards and Travel with Points portal represent a strong move in India’s competitive credit card market. The program delivers impressive value on premium cards through high redemption rates, price protection, and 100 percent point usage. For high spenders, the returns are even more striking, as points can be transferred to Accor at a 1:2 ratio, with each Accor point valued at about ₹1.8. This works out to an effective 72% return, which is really really good. That said, most of these benefits are concentrated at the higher end, while lower-tier cards could still improve their rewards structure. Overall, it is a welcome upgrade for HSBC cardholders and a sign that the bank is ready to compete with HDFC, Axis, and ICICI in the rewards space.
