Hey folks, I’ve been hearing about the Kiwi Credit Card for UPI payments and was wondering how safe it really is compared to traditional credit cards. Does it offer the same level of security, fraud protection, and RBI guidelines support? Anyone here using it who can share their experience?
I used the Kiwi Credit Card for UPI payments for about 8 months before switching back to my regular bank cards. The way their security worked was through “multi-layer protection” (they call it Kiwi Shield) rather than standard bank fraud systems. Typically, you got about decent security coverage on most UPI transactions, which you could rely on for daily usage.
Sometimes Kiwi also ran enhanced security features (extra verification or monitoring) during high-risk periods or specific merchant partnerships, but the default day-to-day protection stayed pretty standard.
| Security type | Protection level | Response time | Notes (What actually happens) |
|---|---|---|---|
| UPI transactions (Daily & monthly limits) | Real-time block | Instant | Anything that’s NOT on whitelist gets flagged |
| Fraud monitoring (Suspicious activity alerts) | SMS + App push | Under 1 min | Only if unusual location or amount pattern |
| Dispute resolution (Unauthorized charges) | Full investigation | 7-12 days | Shows as “Under Review” in app |
| Card theft / Wallet lost (Emergency blocking) | 24/7 support | — | You call hotline or use app instantly |
| High-value UPI (Above ₹25k transactions) | Extra OTP step | — | Additional verification every single time |
Couple of things from my experience:
- Fraud alerts were quick but sometimes blocked my legitimate late-night purchases.
- Dispute process took longer than my HDFC card (which resolved things in 3-4 days).
- Compared to traditional bank cards, Kiwi was faster for blocking but slower for actual dispute resolution.
So in short: decent real-time protection for regular UPI usage, with some extra verification steps but longer resolution times if you actually face
