Is the HSBC Premier Credit Card really free for life?

I read that this card has no annual fee. Is that true or do I need to spend a certain amount to waive the fee

HSBC Premier Credit Card has zero annual and renewal fees for HSBC Premier account holders. There’s no minimum spend required to maintain this benefit, unlike other premium cards that waive fees based on spending thresholds.

The HSBC Premier Credit card is not automatically free for life. If you maintain an active HSBC Premier banking relation, it’s annual fees will be waived.
The joining fees is Rs. 12,000 and annual renewal fee is Rs. 20,000.

I had the same doubt when I first applied for a “no annual fee” card. In most cases, if a card is truly lifetime free, then you don’t need to spend anything to keep it that way. But sometimes banks say “no annual fee” and what they really mean is the fee is waived if you spend a certain amount in a year.

For example, when I got my card, it said “no annual fee,” but later I realized it was only waived if I spent above a set limit. So it’s always good to double-check the fine print or confirm with customer care.

If it’s genuinely lifetime free, the card will stay free no matter what. If not, there’ll usually be a spending condition mentioned clearly in the terms.

Yeah, so here’s the deal, HSBC calls the Premier Credit Card “free for life,” but it’s not like they’re handing it out with zero strings attached. You usually need to qualify for HSBC Premier banking first (which means keeping a chunky balance or a certain income with them). Once you’re in, the card itself doesn’t charge an annual fee.

there is a catch that you need to have HSBC premier Account which is a premium account from them and if you have it then the joining fees for the card is 12,000 + GST and the annual fee is waved as you need to be a Premier customer to have the card as well as waving the renewal fees

Yes, the HSBC Premier Credit Card is lifetime free with no annual fee or spend-based waiver. But to be eligible, you need to be an HSBC Premier banking customer, which requires maintaining a Total Relationship Balance (usually ₹30 lakh across accounts/investments/loans) or holding a mortgage of ₹1 crore+ with the bank. Once you qualify as a Premier customer, the card is free and comes bundled with perks like global Premier status (access to HSBC Premier overseas), lounge access, and decent international spending benefits.
