Is there a limit on the number of dependents in Ayushman Bharat?

My family’s name is on the Ayushman list. We are a family of seven, including my dependent parents. Is there a limit on how many dependents are covered under one card?

There is no limit on the number of dependents or family members that can be covered under a single Ayushman Bharat family card. The scheme is designed to be inclusive and covers all members of an eligible family unit as recorded in the government’s official beneficiary database.

No Cap on the Number of Dependents or Family Members

I was discussing this with a health insurance agent, and he confirmed this as a major advantage of the Ayushman scheme. He said that unlike many private health insurance policies that often restrict the number of dependents, the PM-JAY scheme has no cap on the size of the family or the age of its members.

How Dependents are Identified by the Scheme

My friend was trying to understand who in his family was officially covered. The Ayushman Mitra at a local CSC explained that the list of dependents is not something you can create or modify yourself. The members are pre-determined based on the family composition that was recorded during the 2011 Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC). All individuals who were listed in that household during the census are considered part of the family unit.

All Members Share a Single Family Limit

My neighbor has a large family of eight members, and all of them are covered under a single Ayushman Family ID. When his grandmother needed to be hospitalized, the Ayushman Mitra clarified how the financial limit works. He explained that while all eight of them are covered, they all share from the single annual limit of ₹5 lakh. It is a family floater policy, meaning the cover is for the family as a whole, not per person.
