I am planning to register my new food outlet in Bengaluru on Zomato. To prepare for the application, can you give me a complete checklist of all the mandatory legal documents like FSSAI and GST that I will need?
To register your restaurant or cloud kitchen on Zomato, you must have a set of mandatory legal documents ready for verification. The process cannot be completed without these. The most critical documents are your FSSAI license and GST certificate, along with your personal and bank account details.
The Most Important Food License: FSSAI Registration
My friend, who recently listed his cloud kitchen, confirmed that the first and most crucial document Zomato asked for was a valid FSSAI license or registration. This is a legal requirement from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India for any food business. He had to upload a clear copy of the FSSAI certificate that was issued for his specific kitchen address.
The Mandatory Tax Document: GST Registration
The next non-negotiable document required was the GST certificate. A Zomato representative explained to my friend that as a platform that facilitates transactions and collects payments, they are required by law to partner only with businesses that are GST-compliant. A copy of the official GST registration certificate for his business was a mandatory upload.
Personal and Business Identity Proof: PAN Card
For identity verification of the business owner, my friend had to provide his PAN card. The representative clarified that in the case of a proprietorship firm, the owner’s personal PAN card is sufficient. For a partnership or a company, the business’s official PAN card would be required.
Financial Document for Payouts: Bank Account Details
To ensure that Zomato could transfer the payments from customer orders, my friend had to provide proof of his business’s bank account. He submitted a cancelled cheque which had the name of his restaurant printed on it. He mentioned that a copy of the bank passbook or a bank statement with the account details is also an acceptable alternative for this financial verification.
