What is UPI PIN reset charges?

Does resetting UPI PIN cost money?

Zero. You can reset UPI PIN any number of times via your bank app or BHIM using debit card last 6 digits and OTP. Some apps show ads but no monetary charge. If you forget ATM PIN too, only then ₹50 re-generation fee applies.

Hey, When I first had to reset my UPI PIN after forgetting it on one of my bank apps, I was worried there might be some hidden charge but to my relief, I discovered that resetting a UPI PIN is completely free across all major banks in India.

A UPI PIN (Unified Payments Interface Personal Identification Number) is a 4 or 6-digit code used to authorize UPI transactions. If you forget your PIN or suspect it’s compromised, you can easily reset it through your bank’s mobile app, Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, or BHIM app. During the reset, you’ll be asked to verify your debit card’s last six digits and expiry date for security reasons.

As per the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which manages UPI, there are no charges for setting, changing, or resetting a UPI PIN. The only cost you might incur is a small SMS charge from your mobile operator when your app sends a verification message during the process — but this goes to your telecom provider, not the bank or UPI system itself.

From my experience, it’s always a good idea to reset your PIN periodically and never share it with anyone, even if they claim to be from your bank. It’s a simple, free, and essential step to keep your digital payments secure.
