I was supposed to get a UPI refund for a failed transaction, but it has been more than 5 days and the money is still stuck with the bank. What should I do in this situation to get my refund?
Normally, when a UPI transaction fails, the debited amount is refunded to your bank account within 2–3 working days. In some cases, it can take up to 5 working days, depending on the bank.
What to Do if Refund Is Delayed Beyond 5 Days
If your refund has still not been credited after 5 days:
1. Check transaction status in your UPI app under History using the UTR/Transaction ID.
2. Contact your bank’s customer care and share the UTR number to track the refund status.
3. If the bank is unable to resolve it, raise a dispute/complaint through your UPI app (PhonePe, Paytm, Google Pay, BHIM, or your bank’s app).
Escalation Through NPCI
If the issue persists, you can escalate it by lodging a complaint with NPCI, which manages UPI, using the transaction details.
