Where can I actually compare ULIP plans without getting bamboozled by agents?

I’ve got 3 different agents showing me their “best” ULIP plans - one from LIC, one from HDFC Life, and another from Max Life. But here’s the problem: each agent is obviously pushing their own product and the comparison charts they’re showing me look like they were designed by their marketing teams.

I need an unbiased place to compare ULIP plans side-by-side. Like, I want to see the REAL charges, actual historical performance, fund options, everything laid out clearly.

Is there any legit platform where I can compare ULIPs without someone trying to sell me something?

Okay, I’ve been down this exact path. Here’s where you can actually get unbiased ULIP comparisons:

Legit comparison platforms:

  1. PolicyBazaar - Yeah I know, sounds sketchy, but their comparison tool is actually decent. Shows charges, fund performance, everything side-by-side
  2. Coverfox - Similar to PolicyBazaar, less spam calls in my experience
  3. IRDAI’s official website - Has a “Compare Insurance Plans” tool. Government site, so no sales pitch BS
  4. Morningstar India - If you want to dig deep into fund performance and ratings

What to compare (the stuff agents won’t highlight):

  • Premium allocation charges (Year 1 is crucial - some take 65%!)
  • Fund management fees (Annual drag on returns)
  • Mortality charges (Increases with age)
  • Policy admin charges (Fixed costs that eat into small investments)
  • Surrender charges (If you want to exit early)
  • Fund switching charges (Most allow 4-6 free switches/year)
  • Actual fund performance (Not projected, but last 5-10 years)
