Which airlines in India offer student fare or travel concessions, and what is the process for availing them?

What official documents or proof do I need to provide to avail student discounts in India—are an admission letter, fee receipt, or just my college email sufficient? Which brands or platforms accept these for verifying student status?

Indigo, Air India, Spice jet offers these offers
I would suggest if you want time flexibility then go with indigo as they have the most number of planes in India
Air India would be great if you find any deals as they are a full service carrier and price their seats abit higher than the competition their second brand Air India Express is also great but I would prefer Indigo
And Last is Spice Jet as they offer little lower prices and I won’t to travel with them as they face frequent delays and the quality is not up to the point.

To get student discounts , usually you need to show some proof like your college ID card, admission letter, fee receipt , or sometimes just a .edu/institutional email . Most brands are flexible, But the ID card is the safest bet.

For availing student discount You just need to select the Student Fareoption while booking on their official site or app. At the airport, you’ll have to show your college ID card (that’s the main proof). Some airlines may also ask for an admission letter or fee receipt if your ID looks too new, but honestly, the ID card alone works in most cases.

indigo air india vistara and spicejet all have student fare options. usually it’s around 5 to 10 percent off plus extra baggage. the process is simple you book under student fare on their site, then at the airport you have to show your student id card and sometimes a bonafide certificate from your college. they don’t accept just an admission letter or fee receipt and a college email isn’t enough either. for airlines it’s strictly physical id proof. for brands and platforms like spotify apple music or amazon prime they use unidays or studentbeans which verify through your college email.

For domestic travel, most of the airlines offer you upto 5% of discount on the base fare and upto 5kg of extra allowance. For international flights, Air India offers an extra piece of baggage.

You would mostly need a student ID card as the airlines are usually strict in ensuring compliance with the rules and will not accept any other proof of identity. For international bookings, they will need a visa or a student ID card from the university that you are enrolled in.

The process of booking a flight ticket using the student discount is usually straightforward. You could either use the consession field while searching the flights or use the widely available coupon codes at the time of booking. Please be mindful that the airlines do not allow you to change your booking and hence, make sure of the discount/benefits are applied before you make the payment.
