I’m 23 and just about a year into my career. I’ve started looking into getting a good health insurance plan for myself and after some research on YouTube and Reddit, I’ve narrowed it down to three options:
HDFC Optima Super Secure
Acko Platinum Health Insurance
Aditya Birla Active Health Platinum – Enhanced/Max (depending on availability)
I’d love to get some advice on which of these might be the most suitable for me, or if there are better alternatives I should consider.
A bit about my situation: I had gallbladder removal surgery around six years ago due to gallstones, but aside from that I’ve been generally healthy—just the usual mild fevers or colds every now and then. I currently live in Agra but could be moving to Delhi/Noida in the future.
My budget is flexible, though I’d prefer something that balances affordability with long-term reliability. Ideally, I’m looking for features like:
annual health checkups
a solid claim settlement ratio
transparent terms without hidden clauses or unexpected co-payments
I would suggest go with HDFC as it has a good reputation and a solid claim settlement ratio with many benefits just the thing is the policy might be expensive compared to other providers but if you prefer service and history of the Insurance company then go for it
Another option you can look at if you for any reason dont want HDFC is Acko they also have some of the great plans like Platinum Health Insurance you mentioned but the thing is doctor consultations are not covered in it
I also went through the same thing recently and researched heavily on this topic. Let me help you to select best health insurance plans in India for a 23 years old:
1. HDFC Optima Super Secure would be the safest option for long run. It has a big hospital network, very good claim settlement ratio and fewer hidden conditions. Although this particular option costs a bit more but with this you get reliability and smoother claims.
2. Out of all the option Acko is the cheapest and is fully app based. However its best only if you are based out of Metro cities like Delhi/Bangalore. In case of smaller cities like Agra the network is not that strong.
3. Aditya Birla Active Health Premium has a decent hospital coverage and there is even a concept of “health returns” which incentivizes you to stay fit. One thing I’ll mention is that for different plans there are different co pay conditions so will advice you to read the terms and conditions carefully before signing up.
You are 23 years only which is a good time to start as the premiums would be super low. Go for minimum 15 Lakhs health insurance cover with essential inclusion such as No room rent limit and no co-pay.
Get the health insurance as soon as possible and your future self will thank you when the hospital costs shoot up!!!
