Why Are Some Banks Closed Today on Oct 18 2025 While Others Are Open? RBI Holiday Confusion?

Hey everyone

I just saw that banks in some states are open today (Oct 18 2025), but others like Assam have a full closure due to Kati Bihu. It’s honestly confusing many people thought all banks would be closed since it’s a Saturday.

Can someone explain how the RBI decides these holidays? Why isn’t there a single nationwide bank holiday list so people don’t have to keep checking state-wise schedules every week?

Also, when branches are closed for local festivals, are online banking and UPI still fully functional, or do they face downtime too?

Would love to know how you all handle this do you rely completely on digital payments, or still plan visits around the RBI holiday calendar?

Hey! Yeah, this confuses everyone

Basically, banks follow a mix of national and state-specific holidays. So Assam has Kati Bihu off today, but most other states are fine.

Good news online banking and UPI usually work even if your branch is closed. Only things like cheques, drafts, or account updates need a physical visit.

Honestly, I just check the RBI holiday list for my city and plan branch visits around it. Makes life a lot easier than guessing every Saturday
